On January 6, 2002, theMovement Church held its first Sunday service. Fast forward to Sunday, January 8, 2012, we celebrated on our 520th Sunday of Movement history! Watch this short video looking briefly at our past, with a number of highlights from 2011, and where theMovement is headed as we look at God's vision for us in the future. To see the full sermon, including the above video, click on "Sermons" on the above menu and locate the sermon from January 8, 2012. Also, if you are new to theMovement or are just checking us out online, here are a few Frequently Asked Questions we get from time to time. Of course this isn't exhaustive, and if you have more questions, please, do not hesitate to ask! You can contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. The name "theMovement" came from Ezekiel 36.27 that says "And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws." The Lord gave us this name in late spring of 2001, well before we even dreamed of a church being born. It started out as a youth ministry at our old church, Grace Chapel of the Coastin Oceanside, then expanded into a College lifeGroup, and eventually multiple lifeGroups within our church. By summer, our Senior Pastor encouraged us to take a risk and start a church, and thus "theMovement"was born.
When do you do baptisms?
We do baptisms four times per year. They occur around the New Year, after Easter, before Summer, and kicking off Fall and the new school year. These are huge, important events for us, as they fulfill a part of the "Great Commission," and so it is a huge family celebration complete with a BBQ and a kick off for our new lifeGroup sessions. As a quick "FYI," we do see baptism as one of the steps of faith He has called every believer to do, though we do NOT view baptism as necessary for salvation/justification, as some denominations would. For us, it is an act of obedience and public confession of faith that Christ has commanded us to partake in.
When do you do communion?
Communion is offered every other week on each side of the stage beneath the crosses, as well as at the pillars in the room. You are free to receive communion on your own during worship or at the end of the service when we always have some kind of a time of response or reflection. Communion at theMovement is for believers/followers of Jesus Christ. It is a time of rememberance of what Christ has done and accomplished on the cross for us (we do not believe that it is the actual body and blood of Jesus). It is a time for us to literally "commune" with Jesus, offering Him our worship, dedication, thanks, and worship.
Do you do infant baptism?
No, we do not. Instead, we see the need for the parents of new children to make a public declaration to their church that they are committed to raising their child in a godly way. We call this a "baby dedication." Baptisms are reserved for those that are able to make their own conscious decision of faith. We do baby dedications the same day we do our baptisms.
Do you have membership?
We do. We do see the importance of commitment to the Body of Christ and the work of God set up through His church. At theMovement, we believe every believer that walks through our doors is part of the family of the Body of Christ. Further, we offer our lifeGroups as a way to relationally and practically commit to the specific part of the Body of Christ through theMovement. This commitment is a part of being obedient to the call of Christ to be one with each other, be committed to each other, pray for each other, and encourage each other. Once a believer has truly become committed in love to the relationships he or she has been cultivating within theMovement, we invite them to lock arms with us and advance the Kingdom of God through the vision He has given us for North County. To help believers move forward in this, we offer our Covenant Class, where we look through and discuss our values, vision, and expectation of disciples of Christ. Upon completion, we invite you to join one of our serving teams (if you aren't already) and get further involved, being part of the "Army" of theMovement as we advance the Kingdom together.
I need prayer/advice, who do I talk to? We have different resources depending on your needs and requests. During the week, you can contact Pastor Pat at

Why do your High School students stay in the service? At theMovement, we have always believed that it is critical for a high schooler to not "graduate the faith" when he or she graduates school. Too often, we see teenagers never fully connect within their church because of a completely disconnected "island" mentality, where high schoolers are completely segregated from the rest of the church body. At theMovement, we have always aimed to be relevant to a large group of people; our message, music, and style has somehow been able to transcend age, race, background, social class, etc. We offer a mid week service dedicated to high schoolers and their needs, but on Sundays, we are the church together with them as they receive the word, worship, and serve on our various ministry teams alongside the "adults." What denomination are you?
theMovement is a non-denominational church, meaning that we aren't part of any larger organization. We do, however, have many wonderful relationships with other churches and church leaders in the area and abroad, which helps encourage us, inspire us, keep us accountable, and keep us focused as we recognize the need to be connected to others, accountable, humble, teachable, and submitted one to another in love. We fall in the Protestant/Reformed tradition of orthodox evangelicalism, and you can find our values and beliefs on the "About Us" page.
